Newbie, on Week 2 of Phase 2

Post by jteachie » Tue Mar 24, 2009 7:29 pm

Hi! I'm Jen. I am struggling on Week 2, Phase 2 and would love advice!

I lost 6 lbs the first week and pretty much nothing for the past 3. I'm sooooo disappointed. I reread the book to make sure I'm doing it right and am pretty certain I am. I have only had 2 starches and 1 fruit added into my day.

Anyone else have trouble after week 1???

Patience, Grasshopper...

Some people do better to wait longer on the starches - if you were a bread-oholic, wait a little while longer.

Hang in there... this is where you are learning what works and what doesn't. Experiment a bit to figure it out. It gets easier, really. Eventually you will find it feels 'normal'. Good luck!

well also a lot of it has to do with how much fat you are eating, how much you are drinking (water wise)

are you getting exercise

how old are you
how much do you want to lose???

You may have added back a little too much too quickly. You could try cutting back to 1 and 1 for a week or so and see if that helps and then go back up to 2 and 1. Also if any of the starches are flour based starches (breads, pasta, couscous, etc.) then try switching to more actual whole grain and starchy veggie starches and wait awhile before adding back in the flour based ones.

Thanks for replying!

I am 36. I would like to lose 25 lbs. I started at 180 and I am 5'7". I did follow everything to the letter....no fruit or starches for the first two weeks. Lost 6 pounds week 1 and about half a pound week 2 of phase 1.

Then, the first week of phase 2, I did everything the way the SB Supercharges laid out. I have added less fruits and starches than what it allowed.

I guess I'm wondering why I barely lost anything week 2 of phase 1 even. Any thoughts??? I absolutely had not one thing that I shouldn't have, and even now I have not cheated at all!

I don't think I could have plateaud that soon, lol!

As for exercise, I have been active. I've done mostly videos-Leslie Sansone, Jillian Michaels (which will kick my butt) and some others. About 4 times a week, at least. One of the weeks, I did some sort of activity for a half hour every day (including some yoga too)

a plateau is not one week. it's not even 2 weeks. I don't consider it a plateau until you are doing everything right and after 4-6 weeks you've not lost anything.

it could be a million things.

keep doing what you are doing and the weight will come off.

It takes time. You lost the quick water weight first. The rest takes time. I think it is somewhat typical to lose the first week and then not lose anything the 2nd week and also stay stable to even gaining weight those first 2-3 weeks of P2. Consider it Dr. A's test to see if you are serious about making this a lifestyle program! :winky: I haven't really lost anything in the last 4 years, but I keep eating this way because I know that if I eat any differently I will eventually gain everything back. Keep doing what you are doing!! If you remain concerned, post a typical P2 daily menu and see if anyone can provide some additional ideas or tips.
