How many skeins does it take to make a baby blanket, anyone know?

Thanks, I think that's the size I'm looking for and yes that helps. I was going shopping today for some yarn at the local walmart to see what they had. I have some 100% acrylic yarn but didn't think that it was good enough for a baby blanket, but a lot of the suggestions I have gotten call for it. The 100% acrylic yarn that I have feels to rough so I am off in search for a much softer yarn.

Idona, the sweater is beautiful! I'm like Marie, wish I could knit. I can crochet pretty much anything I set my mind to, and I have tried knitting, but just seems like I have too many things to hold and not enough fingers!

And the shawl looks amazing! I bet the alpaca yarn will make up wonderfully into that!

I like making and using my Diagonal Dishcloths. It was hard at first to use, because it was my very first knitting project that my LYS knitting instructor taught me to knit and I was so shocked that I could make ANYTHING. But once I got over that I found they make wonderful dishcloths in the kitchen. Works out like a green scrubbie and the 100% cotton wears like iron. I used Lily's Sugar'N Cream 3 ply 3oz skein. You can get two dishcloths out of one of these skeins. Plus it knits up in a few hours, well at least for me ,I'm a slow knitter.

Hello ladies been away for awhile but I'm back was sent this and thought I'd share if you'd like the pattern pm me with your email address and I'll send it. Its crochet though pretty but if you ask me not the prettiest I could make.

Handmade Especially for You
Leslye Borden has taken her passion for knitting and crocheting beyond her own personal use by creating an organization that brings a bit of joy to abused women. Handmade Especially for You distributes special scarves to women and children in shelters. Presently, there is a request to the organization for 1,000 scarves for Thanksgiving baskets and another 2,000 for Christmas baskets. A handmade gift can be a small step toward building self-esteem that is so necessary during the healing process for women who have been abused.

Leslye Borden brings a soft touch to women who need it. Photo by Tom Underhill

Leslye's hints for creating scarves are:

1.Use soft yarn (for comfort).
2.Pick happy colors.
3.Make them four to five inches wide.
4.Make them at least 60 inches long.
5.Use open-weave stitch if possible (so they can be used in warm weather climates).
6.Add some novelty yarn or ribbon to make them special.
The intention of making these scarves is to provide a gift of comfort to someone who may have never received a gift before and to show that someone cares.

You can read more about Leslye Borden and the story of Handmade Especially for You online at HandMadeEspecially.org. Her Web site also gives information about starting a local chapter. If you would like to mail scarves directly to her, please send to:

sounds pretty, I'll have to take a look at it sometime!

I got an email from Lionbrand a couple days ago that had some cute knitted or crocheted ornaments.

I'll post the links when I'm on a different computer, can't copy & paste on the one I'm using right now.
